10th Annual Cancer Survivorship Series

Dear Saath team and collaborators, The National Cancer Institute (NCI), CancerCare, LIVESTRONG, American Cancer Society, Intercultural Cancer Council, Living Beyond Breast Cancer and National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, are hosting a free, four-part online workshop series. Each online workshop will begin at 11:30am pacific time and will be held on April, 24th, May 15th, June 19th, and July 17th. If you don't have access to a computer at the time, you can also listen to these workshops on your phone. ALERT: Counterfeit Version of Avastin

Dear Saath team and collaborators, We were just alerted that there is a counterfeit version of Avastin that may have been purchased and used by some medical practices in the U.S. Avastin is an injectable medicine used to treat cancer and is administered to patients in clinics, hospitals, and doctors offices. The counterfeit version of Avastin does not contain the medicines active ingredient, bevacizumab, which may have resulted in patients not receiving needed therapy. Here at Saath, we are currently looking for a Community Outreach worker who is fluent in Urdu, and has excellent connections and knowledge of Pakistani communities in Los Angeles and Orange counties, specifically targeting the South Bay area. Under direct supervision from the Program Associate and Director of Saath, the staff will be responsible for conducting outreach, recruiting participants for research, and follow-up activities related to the health of South Asians. We are currently conducting programs in breast cancer awareness and education, and focusing our research efforts on tobacco use among South Asian youth in Southern California. California Department of Public Health Warns Consumers Not to Eat Roopal Swad Candy Imported from India

Dear Saath team and collaborators, Dr. Ron Chapman, director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), released a statement today warning consumers not to eat Roopal Swad candy imported from India. Tests were conducted by CDPH and found unacceptable levels of lead & advised consumers in possession of the candy to discard it immediately. Dear Saath team and collaborators, Please read the below message from Dr. Arnab Mukherjea, a friend of Saath. The link to complete the survey can be found near the bottom of this email. If you choose to complete the survey, you will be entered for a chance to win a $250 gift card to the Apple Store: I am writing to request your assistance to help improve South Asian health, given your valuable role representing an important segment of the South Asian community. I am currently a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and am conducting a study to understand the health behaviors of this population in the United States. Despite our rapid population growth and important contributions in this country, little public funds are spent on research to understand and address the unique health concerns that South Asians face. By focusing on South Asians specifically, I hope to help draw more resources to eventually help improve the health of this population. Accordingly, I am dedicating some of my time as a trainee to collect some preliminary data to support larger-scale funding of studies which prioritizes our communitys health. It is with commitment in mind that I request your assistance. The following link provides access to a brief health survey which I am hoping you might send or announce to your organizations participants through your listserv or distribution list. You are also welcome to complete the survey yourself or forward to other networks of South Asians with who you may interact with.
